Celebrating milestones: Fun OR pain in the a$$?
Life is a shit show and honestly every other week it feels like there is
some holiday, birthday or big event. Sometimes its overwhelming, and
when you finally get a choice it's almost hard to muster the energy to
do anything. It's also hard when you find yourself comparing your big
events to others. As my anniversary nears, I started to talk to my man about how we wanted to celebrate, are we getting each other gifts, and how important is celebrating?!?!
The first and most important thing is to be honest with yourself and your partner about your expectations. There have times when I've down played my wants with my man and walked away disappointed, and him feeling bad since he didn't "know". Like why are we women so freaking confusing?!? This is hard, because when your young or in a new relationship you don't want to seem high maintenance or you are both too broke to be able to afford anything, the later in my case. Now that we are a bit more stable, we still struggle to decide what to do. Honestly, I tend to be the cheap ass when it comes to our big nights. I'm always trying to save for a big trip rather than a night out. My man gets annoyed sometimes cause he's like come on now let's do something! More times than not I prefer to have a house party, cause celebrating it always better with good food, and cheap beer!
As for gifts, I know it's not the most romantic, but put a price limit on it. To me it ensures you both are comfortable with a certain level of gift. I'm also a weirdo and don't like my man to buy me extravagant gifts. By extravagant I mean anything over $30. Again I’m a cheap ass!
If there are any men out there reading this, please know a thoughtful card goes a long way. It doesn’t need to be fine poetry or some Romeo Juliet shit , but if you can at least put an I love you, your ass is the only one for me kinda shit in writing, it means a lot! Documentation is key!
At the end of the day you gotta celebrate how you want to! But also be reasonable cause wouldn’t you rather not be broke as hell over getting an expensive bracelet you’ll only wear once?
