Mane Monday: Beach Waves addition

This Mane Monday I am going to be breaking down 3 wave products to see which one is the best bang for your buck!

Everyone, I mean most people... I think, love to have that effortless beach look. Now this "effortless" look is actually a pain in the ass to obtain. Even for someone with naturally wavy hair, getting it to look just right is not always easy. Often it involves praying to the hair gods and possibly a sacrifice of some sort. My goal was to try three different "wave" products to see which one works the best. Each product promised "soft" waves. I lived through the heavy gel 90's (you remember so much gel your hair looked wet all day, this was before the Kardashians revived it and made it chic)  and am not trying to relive that. For each product I  applied it at night after a shower and a detanlge spray then let it air dry over night. I wore my hair in a loose bun or twist with a claw clip to avoid any weird bumps.
Which one will I pick??? haha this was too funny to try to accomplish by myself.

Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Soft Waves Spray: A MUST, you honestly should stop reading and go buy this, I won't be offended!

Overall Rating: 5/5
Cost: 5/5
Scent: 5/5 *if you like bananas
Effects: 5/5
First off this spray smells amazing! It's this tropical banana scent and honestly it would be worth spraying on your hair just as hair perfume. You will feel like a tropical beach goddess, all you need is the coconut bra and an acacia bowl! You can find it at Target for $4.84, a nice price tag if I do say so myself!

I sprayed the product throughout my hair and combed it through with a wide tooth comb. When I woke up in the morning I was pleasantly surprised, it's results were true to it's name I had soft waves. Of course I had to touch up my bangs, but the end result was more than I expected from a $5 product. I suffer from frizzy hair and the spray had kept the frizz pretty under control. I did follow up with a few sprays to add some more texture before running out the door, but all in all this is a must in my opinion. As the day progressed my waves stayed in tact and surprisingly had nice movement even when I sprayed it on dry hair. A fear when I use beach sprays is that I will be left with a crunchy mess, but no crunch, no stiff curls! My hair will now smell like a banana more days than not and I'm okay with that!
This spray gave my hair the best waves of all! I got the most compliments on this day than with any other product!

Oribe Matte Waves Texture Lotion: Champagne price...

Overall Rating:  3/5
Cost: 2/5
Scent: 4 /5
Effects:  3/5
On to a more expensive product Oribe Matte Waves Lotion. You can find it on Amazon for $42. Now this is steep in my opinion and I was lucky enough to get this as a sample so I haven't taken the financial plunge yet! As a scientist for the week, I washed my hair and used my detangler spray as I did before using each product. This is a "lotion" or styling cream, so I started with about a quarter size dollop, working it through my hair with my hands. I did put a little more through the ends before putting it in my twist and heading in for the night! The smell was much more perfumey. Not as strong as the banana fruit salad I used earlier in the week, but a nice sweet smell none the less.

I will say my hopes were high for this, mainly because of the cost. For $42 it better give me some nice ass waves. I know the Oribe brand is popular and they do make good products (I've tried their hair sprays, again another sample from one of the many monthly boxes I've tried). When I woke up to see the results the first thing I noticed was VOLUME, VOLUME , VOLUME! I personally don't like that much bounce, maybe it's my personality, but I hate feeling like my hair is a bubble wrap helmet. The waves were soft, and it all may have been different if I didn't sleep on them, but unfortunately I wasn't as impressed with the final outcome. At the end of the day my hair was left soft and bouncy, but it felt more like a normal styling lotion and didn't really add much to my beach wave look that I wasn't naturally born with. I will say out of ll three products, my hair was the softest after using this, but I also felt like I needed to wash is sooner than normal as well. Almost like it got greaser faster.

Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Mousse: For the more refined... or defined

Overall Rating:  4/5
Cost: 5/5
Scent:  3/5
Effects:  4/5
I end this post with another bargain buy, only $3 at Target for a 7oz can. I chose this product for the price and since it was a mousse, I though it would give you the full spectrum of product types. Now because this is a mouse I expected there to be some crunchy, stiffness to my hair. I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up, it was quite soft! After I applied the mousse, the scent was nice and strong, not too strong, but good strong. When I woke up in the morning my hair seemed more curly and the smell faded more than the Not Your Mothers spray. I felt like this accentuates your natural curl, so if you have little curl it may give you more of a wave and if your already curly, it may give you tighter more defined curls. That is what happened to me, my curls seemed more defined, not a bad thing, but not the look I was going for. After I straightened out the ends my hair had a more beachy vibe.  This mousse was good and left my hair soft, not crunchy and stiff like other mouses I have tried in the past. It never sold itself as a "beach wave" product, and my end results were not as beach wavy as hoped, but still a good product to have in your makeup drawer if you have any kind of curl to your hair!
I had to use my curling iron to smooth out my bangs and straighten out the ends. My hair was much curlier with this than the other products.

Final Thoughts
Overall I'd say go with the cheaper products, they work just as well if not better than the more expensive ones, at least in this case. If your looking for true beach waves, the Not your mothers spray worked wonders and smells freaking amazing. If your looking to drop some serious money and get lots of bounce (like boobs in slow-mo) go with Oribe. And if you just want some nice well defined soft curls go with the Herbal Essence. They all had similar goals, just slightly different outcomes. All of them left my hair soft and frizz free so that was a plus!
