Travel guide: London Calling Part 2

Museums are great, but in my opinion FOOD is better!! I'm going to walk you through our favorite bites and restaurants we went to in London. Everywhere we ate was very affordable, aside from afternoon tea, and like always sharing is caring. So freaking share!

Kensington Area
The first place we went to was in our Kensington neighborhood, call The Churchill Arms. This Pub/Thai restaurant was one of the best finds! You maybe thinking fusions, but don't. It is just a pub that serves Thai cuisine, and really the pub doesn't serve the food. Think of this as a refined KFC/ Taco bell, the two places are joined together and work together in a peaceful harmonious dining experience. The Thai restaurant was attached to one side of the Pub and would serve pub patrons. The restaurant its self also had some seating, but you could order and then go to the pub side and be served. We ordered the roasted duck curry with pineapple and the Pad Ga Praow, which was basically stir-fried chicken with chili paste, peppers and onions, both just what one needs after traveling on train all day. It was quickly inhaled and our bellies were satisfied! On to the interior, it was everything one would imagine when thinking of an old school pub, covered in "football" also referred to as soccer and pub memorabilia. If your in the Kensington area check it out!

Guinness and Thai just go together!

Still in the Kensington/Earls Court area, this was our first breakfast and my man went hard on the Full English breakfast. I opted for something lighter because some times you just want something light and don't want to walk around town feeling like a bloated mess. We went to a spot called The Blackbird. It was right across the street from the Underground so a nice spot to hit before we headed out for the day! We wanted to go back to see what it was like at night, but just didn't have the time. The food was good and the interior was nice. My only beef with this spot is that they didn't serve beer for breakfast! I can't remember why, because we got a beer for breakfast when we had landed in London before our train to France, so that was a little disappointing. Don't get me wrong I'm not a big boozer, but its vacation and I just like drinking Guinness 😊
The Full English Breakfast was really good, I had a few bites, but my yogurt and granola was just as good! They also made a great cappuccino!
Soho
As we moved towards central London, we found ourselves in the Soho area. We ate in this area two times, the first was a meat pie spot and the second was the best and I mean truly best Indian food I have ever had in my life. We also checked a cool pub for an afternoon tipple.
I introduce you to the Lamb and Flag. We were there on a Thursday night and it was cool to see all the business men grabbing a drink before the holiday weekend. It was literally all local professionals so it was cool to feel like we found a local spot. Also, because it was such a nice day you could just stand in the alley way and enjoy your drink outside (this is something uncommon in the states except for places like Vegas and NOLA).

Closer to the top of Chinatown was an awesome meat pie spot called Mother Mash. A meal is under 10 euros and is a ton a food! This is what I call cheap eats! I don't really remember exactly what we ordered, but we knew we wanted to share a pie and a sausage and they were both great. There are so many options and the waiter really helped us out when it came to the parings. It was also in a really cool area, lots of bars and restaurant. If possible, sit at the window or if the weather permits sit outside because the people watching is on point!

I am pretty sure we had left overs!
I present to you Dishoom. If you go to only on place from this post go here! I mean it, it will change your life! It is by far the best Indian food I have ever had and even if you think you don't like Indian food your wrong! A word of warning though, this place gets packed so go early! We tried to go our second night and there was a 2 hour wait at 6:00, so make it an early dinner and get there around 5:00/5:30! There are a few Dishoom's in the city and we even tried two different locations both packed! The menu is tapas style so order 3-5 dishes (this was some advice our waiter gave us) and you won't be sorry! One must order the prawns, don't ask questions just order and you will be in a state of blissful dining! We also ordered some curry, naan and other dishes I can't remember. A word to the wise, check out other peoples meals. I may sound creepy, but it gives you an idea of what is popular and you know what your getting if your unsure!
The restaurants atmosphere was really retro and the place was huge! The largest restaurant we had been too! This took us by surprise since the wait was so long! When we went in we knew it must be legit!
Will never have anything as glorious as these prawns. Perfection!

That bread was on point!
Market Dining
First stop Borough Market! This is perfect for breakfast, tons of options and you can grab a few things to go for the rest of your day! I had some amazing warm mulled wine, a scotch egg (one of my husbands favorite indulgences) and some awesome game sausages and sandwiches. It was honestly some of the hardest decision we have had to make dining wise on our trip because everything looked so good!
Look at that thing, egg perfectly cooked! My husband left perplexed wondering how they got the egg so damn perfect!

A little carb heavy and I ended up ditching the bread midway through the meal, but it was nice to try some English game sausages and meat!

This also was really popular with the construction workers which in my opinion is always a good sign!

The deserts were out of this world. It was too early for me to go into a sugar coma, but they looked like pieces of art!

When in the Brick Lane Market area we went to Poppies Fish and Chips. Warning! The fish comes with chips, it didn't say that on the menu and I ended up ordering an extra side of chips, but all is good! We also ordered mushy peas because when else will we have them! There was a wait, but not too long. Also, it was a tightly packed restaurant so we got to know our dining neighbors as well, a great way to meet others while traveling! We also went to some pop- up outdoor bar, I honestly can't find it online, so if you see a cool outdoor bar it's probably it! I had the best cider and it forever changed my life so next time you go to your local ABC or beer and liquor store try it out! We did get a bomb brownie from a vendor and there was a ton of options in the area, we just opted for a sit down meal to regroup and let our feet rest!

LIFE CHANGING!

It was hard not to just down it in two sips!

Peanut butter Brownie, gooey on the inside and really rich! Perfect with our beers!
A little off the beaten path, but a nice pub we checked out near the Old Spitalfields Market.
Museum Pit Stop
Near the British Museum was a cool pub call Princess Louise. It had these bar sectionals, something I've never seen. Also, this bar was one that only sold a specific brand of beer. That seemed to be popular. Unlike in the states where there are the top 5 beers, some places only sold one brand, which I though was interesting. We didn't eat anything here, but it was a nice pit stop after walking the museum for hours!

Our Cheers
The last restaurant/pub I will be taking you to is Windsor Castle. This was our Cheers, our home away from home. We usually had a night cap here. We also had our minds blown! So the second night we went we decided to order a dessert, toffee pudding sounded nice. If we only knew that it would be the dessert dreams are made of we would have gotten it soon. Actually maybe we wouldn't have ordered it at all because now every time we try to find a toffee pudding at home we are sorely disappointed and go into a mild depression dreaming about the glorious bite we had there. I know I sound insane, but we both took a bite and all that came out of our mouths was "holy sh**". We went back again the last night to say goodbye! When traveling I like to find a bar that is close by where I am staying just to feel like I have a spot, somewhere I feel comfortable and this was it!

We also tried some of their other food and it was all good! Chicken wings, you really can't go wrong!

The BEST DESSERT you will ever have! Toffee pudding, so good we went back to have it for a second time!

All gone, sad!

Till next time London, and there will be a next time!
