M is for Montreal
Let me start by saying we never intended to see this much art, but due to the unfortunate/ fortunate circumstances of the biodome and insectarium being closed we had to improvise! Now the street art and art galleries alone were amazing, making it unfortunate that the weather sucked so walking around was a bitch. However this lead us to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts which was a great warm and indoor activity! You could easily spend 3-4 hours here so its a great was to spend a day.
Before we found ourselves getting some culture in the museum we walked around the Old Port and strolled in and out of tons of amazing art galleries. These were just some of my favorite pieces I can't afford, but would have totally taken home with me if I could have fit them under my coat.
Similar to Quebec the street art here is just amazing. Every block you look down you can see these amazing murals that distract you just enough to possibly get hit by a car. Tom took out extra insurance on me right after I took this photo.
yeah I did not prepare for the weather and had to wrap myself up to prevent wind burn and a possible temper-tantrum about the weather. |
This was Tom's favorite, he called it Trash Panda.
The colors really livened up the streets especially on the overcast days we were there.
Montreal had a great Metro system, it runs often and was $10 for a day pass and trust me we used every penny of that pass! It was one of the best metro or subway systems we've gotten to ride. Very clean and easy to navigate. There is a stop fairly close to the Museum of Fine Arts, Guy-Concordia, which made going there an easy decision! When looking for a hotel make sure it is walking distance to the Metro, we learned quickly Montreal is very big and very spread out so this is a must if you want to get around town quickly and effortlessly.
Now the art. We got to see some really cool and unique pieces, this snail penis piece was by far the most eye catching.
I also came to realize Napoleon and I have the same shoe size and similar taste in foot wear.
We got so inspired we tried to get a bit artsy ourselves.
Tom was much better at blending into the pieces than I was, I guess we all have our strengths.
This is a reenactment of our first date :)
An this one represents our marriage, JUST KIDDING!
Also, I found a self portrait of me in the morning before my morning coffee!
If one happens to only be in Montreal for the day or the weather is not favorable, this is the place to go! There is a great mix of pieces and exhibits. Don't worry, my food and drink post is coming up soon, just thought I'd give a little something else other than us stuffing our faces!
